New Delhi: An innocent 8-year-old girl was allegedly physically assaulted by three minor boys (aged 12 to 13 years). According to the police, these children were continuously threatening the girl for two days and taking her to a secluded place, making her take off her clothes and threatening to kill her if she told anyone. Tension spread in the area, some people started protesting, and police had to deploy additional force.
On Saturday, the girl's mother called the police and said that some boys in the neighborhood had done something wrong to her younger daughter. The police team immediately reached the spot. The girl was talked to and she narrated the entire incident in fear. Medical examination was conducted, the report confirmed sexual assault. After this the three boys were taken into custody.
The girl told the police that the three boys used to take her to an empty place for two days continuously. There they used to make her remove her clothes, do bad things, and threaten her—"If she tells anyone, bad things will happen to her” or "They will kill her." Last time she was forcibly assaulted on Saturday. The girl was so scared that she could not say anything at first, but after coming home, she told everything to her mother.
The girl was immediately taken to the government hospital and medical examination was done. After the report came, all three minors were caught and interrogated. Since the accused are minors, they will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. A case has been registered under Section 6 (Aggravated Penetrative Sexual Assault) and physical assault and intimidation sections of the POCSO Act. The investigation is still going on.
According to the police, all three have left their studies. Their families are very poor – parents earn their living by working as laborers or at home. These children are residents of the area and already knew the victim.
As soon as the news spread, some people came out on the streets and protests started. Initially rumors spread that it was a communal matter, but the police made it clear – "It has nothing to do with any religion or community. One of the accused is from the same community as the victim." The police brought the situation under control by deploying additional forces and appealed to the people to maintain peace.
